The UP men's soccer team had one of their biggest weekends of the season, as they defeated Loyola Marymount 1-0 and San Diego 3-2 in one last push to make the NCAA playoffs. The Pilots (8-9-2, 5-6-0 WCC) need to win their final game this weekend if they want any chance at making playoffs, but they were able to keep their hopes alive with two strong performances over the weekend, their final two home games of the season.
What a difference a year can make. In last year's first exhibition game, the University of Portland's men's basketball team suffered a demoralizing 66-64 loss to Division II Western Oregon. In Thursday's exhibition game, the Pilots made sure that was not going to happen again by defeating Linfield College 94-36.
Portland Trailblazers' fans seem to be everywhere these days. Take a walk in a mall, go downtown, or visit the bars and chances are you will see at least a few people adorned with the red and black Blazer's pinwheel. A number of UP students come from Oregon and have always supported the Blazers as their team.
The University of Portland women's soccer team will play at home for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division I Women's College Cup this weekend after receiving the second seed. For the first time in the last four years, the Pilots earned a home seed in the tournament, and they will play Northern Arizona University tomorrow at 8 p.
